Time For Some New Music!

Hi folks.

Me again. Time to do a music update:

I was looking for new music on the web and came across a new band from Australia. But to my ears, they didn't sound Australian. In fact they shocked me in their hit single "Bones of a Rabbit" by introducing new wave syntheses and heavy drums, all backed by a slow piano rhythm to start off the song. It became one of my favourites because it was classified under music that really catches my attention. It was all new to me when I first heard it, but that sort of thing (the 'newness') really interests me into going after some of their other songs. So I had to be playing it ever since that first listen.

Let me introduce you to a new generation of music for you. You see, Young Heretics, as they're called release music that is focused on 'lost love' and having found it in themselves, while expressing their story in their songs. The pair, Matthew Wright and Kitty Hart both from Australia came together in early 2009 to create "We Are The Lost Loves", which is their second album to be released. (Which can be downloaded free on their main website http://www.youngheretics.com). This pair has found a connection through their love of warped pop and sonic invention. And to my imagination, they have crteated something very industrial and very fascinating. So have a listen, tell me what you think, and enjoy it.

Another group or duo I came across while searching for 'new' music was an indie rock band hailing from the US. The duo consists of Danger Mouse (real name Brian Burton), and James Mercer, the lead vocalist for The Shins. They are called Broken Bells, and they're self-titled debut album released on March 9th, 2010, peaked at number 7 on the Billboard 200. Their first single "The High Road" reached considerable popularity on iTunes and was a free download for the week of March 9th. I gave this track a listen and it was really something amazing. It was almost like a commercial jingle, only it had great length to be a superb track from beginning to end. But to my surprise, they were really taking advantage of their musical collaboration, adding in specific sound that will help bring out their ability to preform. If you like that first single, I also recommend "October" (a good, solid piece of music) and their second single, "Vaporize" (slower tempo but still easy-listening). Check out their music video for their first single "The High Road" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWBG1j_flrg

Also, I came across many other artists, all of whom create something with their music that stands out from all other artists making them unique. Feel free to check them out if you get the time. Some other pieces of new music I found rather quite interesting on my search were:
  • Justin Nozuka returning for his sophomore album "You I Wind Land and Sea", check out his first single, "My Heart is Yours" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AM59n_iyk
  • Dan Black, a British pop artist releases his debut single (which sounds like a take from the instrumental of Rhianna's 'Umbrella', "Symphonies" featuring Kid Cudi. Check out his debut album "UN" and music video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L34HL6vEYAA
  • Edward Maya, a Romanian artist and composer released his single "Stereo Love" featuring Vika Jigulina, off his untitled debut album in February of 2010. This single alone reached high amounts of popularity by receiving nearly 26 million views on YouTube in little than 7 months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Z3YrHJ1sU
  • Patrick Watson, Canadian-born, and his band released their album "Wooden Arms" with a hit single, "The Great Escape", which has already been played in a recent Tropicana ad. Check him out live with this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGVF0vWAXkI&feature=related
  • Julie Fader, a Canadian musician released her debut album, "Outside In" in 2009, and her single reached it's way to the top of the charts. Listen to "Goodbye Before Hello" and visit her MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/juliefader.

Remember, I am always on the run to hunt for new music that will revolutionize our society and take music into a new opening threshold, creating a new global change that will one day be part of what I would like to call the changing of the guards per se. I imagine that one day, music will just be outspoken and there will be a way that can change the way we present music as a whole society. But for now, just listen to something you have never heard before and enjoy what the future has to offer.

Until next time,

-Drew
