Would you "Walk Like An Egyptian"?

Good Sunday morning;

It seems every time I return, the world happens to find itself in another unlikely predicament. Ironic because each time I write a new post, it's usually at the end of each month, which just so happens to be when the world decides to start another crisis. WE sure do have our hands full, don't we? I'd say that for the most part, it's the fact that everyone out there has his or her opinion about these troubled times, and to think that we take it further discussing it online on Facebook, Twitter, blogging or YouTube, makes it seem much more easier for the rest of the world to understand what is happening. So why did Egypt throw away its online network? That question still bothers me, because we might as well just call the country Gypt. I mean how did it disconnect everyone's connection? Who the hell would turn off the internet for such a time when the country, who's known for the pyramids and Moses, could receive the highest number of views? But here's the thing; timely news like that is FAR more important than any other post I've read the last few days. Let me explain the rules of Facebook and Twitter posting below.

The bridge to this post is to signify the purpose of Facebook. Sure you may just go on, type in a status update about your current situation, post a few pics from the party last night or tell everyone, even the people who aren't really that close to you, that you found yourself in a relationship after back-to-back wall postings, but in my opinion, Facebook helps us share are views with each other through connecting to one another about current events, tragic times, and even the unfortunate of opportunities. But then again, who wants to hear about your personal life if YOU don't even find it that interesting (and I'm telling you, the ones who constantly complain for an unknown reason about their troubles, over and over again and people read it and think that it's just another count of useless information that no one needs to hear. If you don't mind wasting your time in these unnecessary posts, then by all means, post away, but don't expect any one to listen.

For example, one day I decide, (yes I decided) to log in and low and behold, I see an unnecessary status update that's wasting my reading time as well as everyone else's. It read, "Cookies are amazing. I wish I was cookie monster." I read that over again and thought, why the hell would we want to know that? For my sake, I would like to see updates that consist of changes in someone's life, updates that have an inspiring or personal point of views, or something I could at least "like" or comment on. I mean, if I were to comment on that crappy post, what would I have said? "Me want cookies too! (cookie monster voice)"?

The thing about this is that it has to be substantial for me to read and be impressed with what I see. It has to be inspiring, news worthy or something I wouldn't mind wasting my time on reading. The fact that it may include a great number of people than you think is a good post, and may generate lots of comments. Or if you include a question, but no rhetorical one, please, and no open-ended one as well, and not one that you already know the answer to, but at least one where you know it's worth asking and will get a lot of comments, then it's okay. But this is when Facebook should be a little more creative and include a "who cares!?" button.

PLUS Here is something I came up with in grammar class that I can't stand to look at, even though it's going to be up here for me and all of yous to read: "Punctuation. should always, be used 'properly' otherwise the shit is annoying? Isn't it!" Grammar; sure one hell of a funny language nowadays. Let's just say "I take for granite peoples' poor grammar. More pacifically. how there all ways thinking 'for all intensive purposes' is supposedly correct." So parents reading this, take the opportunity now to talk to your kids about grammar because they will eventually learn about sex and drugs on the streets when they won't be able to pronounce Eyjafjallajokull.

Birthdays seem to be the one thing I couldn't avoid all this month. Every week, there was a new invitation to a party for one in my Journalism crew who was celebrating their birthdays with a few drinks, inviting other randoms over and chatting about current events, and stuff. Yes, exactly. Me, and this other girl are the youngest in the class, and I don't turn 19 until a week before she does. Phew. AND my birthday just happens to be on a Saturday, so...if you guessed it, then yeah. I will be going to bed real early that night. Wink wink.

Okay, if I go post this blog post to both Facebook and Twitter at the same time, would the internet self-destruct?

By the way, I still need constant reassurance, right?

Also, in my new news, I will be on Canadore's radio station, the 'Panther radio' this coming Thursday, (February 3rd) at 4:00pm, and I will post the link for the radio station on my Facebook and Twitter accounts, respectively, so all of yous can listen live at that time. Make sure you have a computer nearby all the time, just in case I have to make an emergency adjustment.

So what else does the month of February hold? Well, for me, an invitation to a pre-wedding party 90 mins. north of Toronto in a town called Barrie to celebrate my cousin's engagement to his longtime girlfriend and soon-to-be wife. However, sources say that the wedding of the year will go to Prince William and Kate Middleton, this wedding will be an occasion for all my relatives and family and will probably thee wedding of the year, in my opinion.

Good, well, done. I'll possibly have a music update next time. Enjoy the winter.

Later January 2011.

-Drew
