Your Move, Canada

Dun dun dun.

First of all I want to thank the Canadian politicians for given us something this early in the year to look forward to. I mean it's not like the Royal Wedding or the NHL playoffs, or even the huge UFC fight in Toronto mean anything to us, or even the provincial election in October. Just when I wanted a chance to vote, suddenly I don't want to have these guys throwing elections on us every second year or so. This is what, like the 3rd election in 5 years? Canada, make up your mind. No one is going to even care about who runs our country anymore unless the whining stops. Three losers running this thing. Two of whom don't know when to give up. Clearly, Canada doesn't face a chance with any new Prime Minister after this election commences. Layton could be growing up the numbers, which will only strenghten his lead for the next election as he takes on Harper, he could be the possible number 1 opposition, but he doesn't stand a chance at becoming Prime Minister, so he better not be getting used to hearing his name following the job title of prime minister of this country.
I was asked by a CTV reporter on Tuesday about how politicians and the polling stations aren't making it easy for the students to vote. Yes, students are lazy, but is having the ballot right in front of you while you're waking up to your morning cup of joe going to make a difference? Probably not; it's not going to change your vote, nor will it change who you'll vote for. It may however change your motivation to vote seeing how it could be just a simple click away as to going to a polling station. But if students have nothing else to be motivated by, and if it is the last means to get that student vote, then why hasn't it been done yet? Here is what I want to ask the youth of Canada. Does this election matter to you? Are you taking it seriously? Are the federal leaders making it easier or harder for you to vote for them? The numbers add up and they are surely decreasing. To point out, the youth voter turnout for 2008 was only 37%. This means approximately 1.8 million youth who could have voted didn't, in contrast to only 57% of the Canadians to cast a ballot - a figure that appears to be a record low in the history of confederation. So what is the likelihood of that number dropping this year? Well, not many of Canada's youth seem to care really.

Besides the federal election, there's always the NHL playoffs, or the Royal Wedding to look at. Many I talk to aren't that into hockey, but I was watching the Bruins the other night, and I was surprised that I could name like 5 of the current players, including the captain, just by looking at their faces. So why aren't I in any kind of hockey pool? With response to the Royal Wedding, isn't the American media blowing it way out of proportion? Like first of all, the United States isn't even a constitutional monarchy. We have that advantage. But I see ads and promos on American television that promise to give an "in-depth" look from Williams' and Kate's point of view, like what exactly will they be staring at while they walk down the aisle? And I can't believe one of the promos I saw will have Barbara Walters going inside the room of the royal couple after their reception to discuss the next steps to their marriage. I was like, huh?! Who gets away with murder? They do apparently.

But with all this hype this past few weeks about these current events, that brins me to my next point; where the hell is everyone else?

How's Bieber's trip to Eurasia? Any word on if he's thinking about getting a dual-citizenship?
Hey, have we found Osama yet? Can we just tell him that he wins the all-time record of best individual to ever play hide-and-go-seek? "Hey Osama, it's been like, 10 years now, umm, any chance of coming out? We won't hurt cha anymore, but there could be a lot of potential with what you do. How about come finding us for a change?"

I'm just watching CNN right now where future air traffic controller are being taught how and when to snooze. It's quite hilarious. Definitely not like the few who slept through the tornado in St. Louis because that was a natural disaster; people aren't allowed to sleep through natural disasters.

I probably have a lot more to talk about but because I want to keep this current before these big things take place, I think I'm doing my fingers a favour by posting it now. I'll be in Toronto for the next few weeks, possibly looking for summer employment...maybe looking for a course for next year, who knows. Really excited for the summer. In the mean time, ttfn.
