Canadian, I am
Canada Day is on tomorrow and when I say that, what do we all think about? Red and white? The pride and the freedom? Fireworks? Or when Canada became a country 144 years ago? It's true, there are several answers but what does it feel like to be a Canadian. Well, it feels heart warming, it feels chilly in the winter, but it also brings a sense of embarrassment by what we've exported to the world these past few years. Ex. Celine, Bieber, Ignatieff, the Vancouver rioters, the Maple Leafs...just to name a few. But besides that, there is lots to be proud of: Jim Carrey, the Edgewalk at the CN Tower, hockey...where would we be without those distributions?
We haven't really accomplished that much on the world stage per say these last few years, so it's hard to stay where we find ourselves within the world. Quite simply, we didn't capture Bin Laden, we didn't elect a black president, and we only have one major league baseball team...and we didn't win the Stanley Cup, but still, at least we had a Canadian team show up. But on the good side, we hosted the Winter Olympics last year, we are and continue to be the leader in immigration AND within the top 10 of tourist destinations; that's for sure. So maybe I'm just trying to think of the negatives and they just aren't coming to me right now. Guess that's a good thing.
And of course, who can't forget Terry Fox. But just because his mother passed away last week, his legacy simply does not die. He has left a monument on Canadians, and people around the world. Each of them strive in the Fox Foundation and support the cause of battling cancer with the Terry Fox Run held in most cities every year. And here is an article about Fox 30 years later and below is the video you can find on the site.
Remarkable.
Here's another point I must bring up. Do you remember the oil sands? John Stewart sent his correspondent to the site on June 9th, and well, here is his revelation towards Canada.

But why don't some patriots like the land of the free. Is it because we're just too afraid to go independent? Why haven't we've gotten rid of the monarchy? Is there a justifiable reason why we've kept it for this long? Sure the Queen is a huge symbol when it comes to royalty and Canadians have had so much influence by the Royal family this year, so it's unlikely we would get rid of them anytime soon. Someday, I hope, Canada will become independent, but first, I'm not sure any of the political leads CAN handle being without a higher power.
It's good to be a Canadians because we seem to have it good. After all, we've held center stage when it came to America's favourite neighbor country to make fun of. I'm sorry; NEIGHBOUR country. We all know Canada has been the back seat joke with America for years; we've been picked on a lot. As Americans mock us, Canadians aren't eager to jump on the offense. That's what makes Canada such a great friend to the USA. We can either be "America's winter hat that tags along like a little school kid and his father," a sexual position: the "Canada" - you climb on top and don't do much, or "bacon-eating moose heads". But whatever the significance, we wouldn't be the country we are today without the States. I'm sure we would still survive without them, but until we unexpectedly turn against them, because you know that day will come eventually, Canada will just be the leading country in downsizing Americans with being the rightful place to live.
With that being said, no one can say everything you wanted to know about Canada better than Rick Mercer.
And to end it all off, here's a quiz to see how much you know about Canada.

Now I did promise a music update, but I forgot my music which means I'll have to save it until next time. So until next time, Happy Canada Day and Canadians, don't do anything stupid, okay?

You Know Your Canadians!
That's what it's all aboot! You know it's best to have a serviette or two handy with your poutine, you prefer your milk in bags and when you have a social problem you expect your government to fix it instead of staying out of it. Now take off, eh?
