Good boy, Chance

It's sad to see a dog pass. It happens every time. Every 8 to 12 years, your best friend is taken away from you. The hardship is unbearable. I hate seeing this happen, but time takes its toll.

Chance, my dog, for eight strong years, passed away tonight. If you've ever seen him, you would have thought he was way past his time.

And this is more than just a simple loss. This is like losing a family member.

Chance was like a third brother to me. He was a major part in the past 8 years of my life. He was my go-to for daily exercise, my excuse for not finishing my homework, and my playful pet that always had a mindset for not letting go.

You could say "good boy" or "hey Chance!" and he would always give that friendly growl. You would walk into the house, and you could hear his chain as he ran to greet you at the door. When he was wagging his tail, you knew he was just as excited as you were.

I'll miss going to the park and playing catch with him. Although, it was more like chase. I'll miss seeing him in his favourite spot on the couch or looking outside the window. I'll miss running around with him trying to tire him out before he tired me out.

I will miss his bark, taking him on walks, running around the house and playing with his floppy ears, among many, many more. Chance can not simply be replaced.

He always had smarts and was wise enough to think for himself. He knew if he didn't want to go in the water. And there were times when he did and he enjoyed himself.

And though the early years were quite difficult in training him, he grew up to be smart, loyal and a friendly companion. He was everything you wanted in a dog. And that's what I'm going to miss about Chance. He wasn't just a pet dog, he was a family member who came anywhere with us.

It feels as if I've had Chance for a lifetime, but in reality, he was the one who had us for a lifetime.

Chance was a good boy. And he will continue to be a good boy in heaven.

RIP Chance 2005-2013
